A woman was beaten by an angry mob following an accusation that she killed her abusive husband.

45-year-old Usha Devi who recently became a widow, was beaten unconscious by an angry mob who accused her of murdering her husband.

Devi who was a housewife prior to her 50-year-old husband, Ashok Paswan’s death, was said to have endured abuse at his hands. When he died, in their home in Samastipur village in Bihar, India, after abusing her physically earlier, a group of about 25 young men stormed her house, took her away in the presence of her children and beaten with sticks till she became unconscious.

Devi who was beaten in the presence of over 100 onlookers, was abandoned to die after the torture. She was later rushed to Sadar hospital by good samaritan, and treated for the injuries she sustained.

When contacted, the deputy superintendent of Bihar police, Tanveer Ahmed, had this to say:

“We are currently investigating the case. We know the two (husband and wife) had an argument which turned violent. She hit her husband with a rod, and then he died. We are waiting for the post-mortem report.The woman is currently being treated at the hospital for her injuries. Once she’s well we will continue our investigation and find out what has happened here and we will take due action against the woman and the mob if necessary.”
